Tribeca

Tribeca

Consistently named the priciest neighborhood in the city, a Tribeca address comes with a tremendous amount of prestige and an up-close view of some of New York’s most beautiful environs.

Deriving its moniker from the description “Triangle Below Canal,” the neighborhood runs south of Canal bordered by the Hudson River to the west, Broadway to the east and Chambers Street (or Vesey Street, according to some) to the south. Thanks to its position along the river, Tribeca once served as the city’s “Butter and Egg District” filled with abundant markets and wholesalers for perishable foods and dairy products. The Mercantile Exchange, a Romanesque Revival building at the corner of Hudson and Harrison Streets, nods to both the neighborhood’s stunning architecture and its important position in the city’s commerce.

Today, the majority of the neighborhood falls within the Tribeca Historic Districts where large warehouse and store-and-loft type buildings have been converted to fantastic Tribeca lofts for sale, under both co-op and condominium arrangement. The sections of Tribeca not within the Historic Districts, especially along the Hudson River, feature modern high-rise condominiums with breathtaking water views.

Dubbed Tribeca’s backyard, glorious Hudson River Park is a major draw providing residents more than 500 acres of exciting waterfront open space, recreation facilities, a dog park and skatepark. Although smaller, Washington Market Park is a no less beloved part of Tribeca life and the site of annual community events and the year-round Tribeca Greenmarket on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tribeca is the home to the Borough of Manhattan Community College and filled with a tremendous array of fine dining, boutique shopping and a tight-knit community spirit that make living in this coveted neighborhood well worth the price tag.
